A CBCT scan takes a 3D image of your tooth. It allows us to rotate the tooth on a computer screen and look at it from every single angle. Exploring Your Tooth Resorption Treatment Options

Now for the best part—how we fix it! I always tell people that dentistry is all about saving teeth whenever possible, and we have some highly effective ways to do that. If the issue is happening on the outside of the root (external resorption), we have to take a slightly different approach. Since the damage is under the gum line, a root canal alone won’t reach it. In these cases, we perform a minor surgical procedure.

We gently lift a small flap of your gum tissue to expose the area where the damage is happening. Next, we clean away the cells that are breaking down the root. Once the area is clean and sterilized, we patch the tiny hole in your root using advanced bioceramic materials. These materials are incredibly cool—they are biocompatible, meaning your body loves them, and they actually encourage your natural bone and tissues to heal around them. After the patch is in place, we lay the gum tissue back down, and it heals beautifully.

While we cannot always control how our body’s cells behave, there are absolutely things we can do to minimize the risks. I always emphasize the power of routine dental visits. Since this condition often starts silently, your regular six-month X-rays are your best line of defense. Catching it early gives us the highest chance of saving the tooth with a simple procedure.

Additionally, if you play contact sports, invest in a good quality, custom-fitted mouthguard.
